What Is Max Interval Training?
Max Interval Training is essentially what the Insanity Workout is. It's what muscle confusion is to P90X. M.I.T (Max Interval Training) is the specific technique that gives Insanity users the results that are often advertised. The easiest way to understand what Max Interval Training is would be to look at the two charts to the right.
The first chart gives an example of the intensity output of a typical traditional hour long workout routine. As you can see, the level of intensity is only maximized in short periods followed by long segments of lower intensity. The main reason for this is due to the nature of the exercises used during the routine. Most traditional exercises cannot maintain a high level of intensity. This is where the secret of Insanity lies...
Now take a look at the 2nd graph below. This chart provides a timeline of the level of intensity you'll be working at when using Insanity. The idea behind the program is to "flip" the traditional model of exercise routines and demand long blocks of maximum intensity with shorter blocks of low intensity. But how does the Insanity Workout accomplish this?
Shaun T developed the Insanity workout as a Max Interval Workout program. With that principal in mind he knew he could only use basic exercise moves that any person could. The reason he used basic exercises that would require no equipment (like push ups, suicide drills, and other repetitive body movement exercises) is because these are the only exercises you can do repeatedly at maximum intensity for long periods of time.
After Shaun cherry picked the best moves for Insanity, put them in proper sequences, and built each of the 10 DVD workout routines, the test groups of individual results spoke for themselves. After that, Max Interval Training became the most duplicated form of extreme fitness training in the world.

Which Is Harder: P90X or INSANITY?
To begin with both workouts are extreme and will push you beyond the limits you thought were possible. The difference comes not from how intense they are, but rather the approach and style of the individual programs. There's no right or wrong here as it's simply a matter of personal preference. To begin with, P90X is a 90 day program that involves resistance and weights. Tony Horton also implores several different exercises from pull-ups, yoga, kenpo karate to plyometrics and cardio. P90X is probably best suited for the exerciser that is looking for a wide variety of exercises all centered on bulking up.
The Insanity Workout is very different. If you have ever seen an Insanity infomercial you probably did not notice any weights, yoga mats or pullup bars. Insanity is all about shorter extremely intense cardio workouts. Insanity is a nice blend of calisthenics, plyometrics and cardo drills that take Interval Training to an insane level. If you find that heavy weights and the idea of bulking up is not appealing to you, then the Insanity Workout is for you.
How Does Turbo Fire Differ From The INSANITY Workout?
Is Turbo Fire better than Insanity or simply different? When considering the differences between the two programs one of the first things that jumps out is that Turbo Fire is a 90 day program verses the 60 day Insanity workout. Second, similar to P90X, it varies more in its exercises delivering both short workouts coupled with longer ones. Whereas Insanity requires no gear or accessories only yourself, Turbo Fire incorporates resistance training using bands.
Insanity takes a rather simplistic approach to mass DNA removal (AKA sweating like a mother) in that there is no resistance training, no High Intensity Interval Training, simply hardcore 20 minute long MAX cardio exercises. To put it simply, you end up with a calisthenics workout led by the mad professor Shun T that leaves you gasping for air all the while laying a pool of your own sweat
